May 10, 2010 - EMILY MADDISON SCORES WIN IN ALBERTA ROTAX CHALLENGE

PCR and ODKarts.com driver Emily Maddison claimed the top step of the podium in the first round of the Alberta Rotax Challenge event at the Varsity Speed Park facility in Calgary, Alberta. Utilizing an Overdrive Motorsports prepared PCR chassis, Maddison showed her skills as she won heat races and the main event to take her first win of the 2010 racing season.

Utilizing a different racing format, a pea pick would be put in place for the start of the first heat while a reverse pea pick would be the line up for heat two. After the two heats, the driver with the highest points would be forced to start the third heat from the tail of the field making passing very important. After the three heats were complete, drivers would be lined up by points for an all out twenty lap main event to determine the winner. Looking to keep costs down and the fun factor at a maximum, series officials would limit all events to one day of on track activity with three races determining the overall series champion.

With short six lap heats counting towards main event grid positions, Maddison would draw the lowest number of the pea pick and would start heat one from the tail of the field. Utilizing her driving skills, the talented female drove forward to a second place result, a good start to the day. In heat two, the PCR pilot would start from the pole position and would never look back. Taking the lead at the drop of the green flag, Maddison would lead all competitors to take the checkers.

With her first and second place results, Maddison had the highest number of points heading into the third and final heat. With the high points having to start shot gun on the field, Maddison lined up in the last position and worked hard to move forward at the start of the event. The six lap dash was over in no time but not before the veteran junior driver could move forward to the top spot to take the win.

After a brief break and the points were calculated, Maddison, with her pair of wins and second place result, would line up on the inside front row for the main event. Being the driver to beat, fellow competitors looked to get in front of her early and hold off her advances, but the young Canadian showed her determination and skill as she took the lead and drew away from the rest of the Rotax Junior drivers.

“The first event was fun and very successful for us,” expressed Maddison after the first round was complete. “The format was challenging and made drivers work for every position in the heats as each position gained would help your starting spot in the main event. After a tough three month start to the 2010 season, this is a welcomed turn around for me and I hope to keep the momentum rolling into the next events.”

Emily would like to thank her current supporters and sponsors: Overdrive Motorsports and Scudeira PCR Racing Karts. A special thank you has to go out to Overdrive Motorsports Team Manager Joey Guyon and tuner Ryan Pfau for all of their help and support so far throughout the 2010 racing season.
